TuKoKe evaluation criteria
The key factors in selecting projects to the final event:
participant’s own enthusiasm
originality of the project
freshness of the idea
evidence of scientific thinking
quality of reporting.
The participant’s age and grade level are taken into account in the evaluation.
Tukoke evaluation forms
Evaluation form, category I and category Y: preschool and primary instruction as well as group projects where the participants belong to different age categories
Evaluation form, category II: grades 3 to 9
Evaluation form, category III: all other under 21-year-olds (high school students, vocational students, etc.)
Evaluation process
A multidisciplinary pre-selection jury evaluates every project. Based on their assessment, some of the projects are sent to expert reviewers who grade them.
30-40 projects will be selected for the final event on the basis of the project reports and the expert reviews. Projects are selected so that all age series and disciplines are evenly represented in the final event.
During the finals the jury will interview all the participants. The ranking is made based on the interviews, project presentation, project report and expert reviews. The interviews are 50% of the evaluation.
Prizes
TuKoKe final event is a get-together for science and technology enthusiasts
Tuomariston haastattelu on nuorille hyvin merkityksellinen tilanne. Tapahtumassa myös jaetaan palkintostipendejä, sponsoreiden nimikkopalkintoja ja ohjaajapalkintoja sekä valitaan Suomen edustajat kansainvälisiin kilpailuihin.
The best TuKoKe projects will to invited to the final event. There the participants meet other science and technology enthusiasts and have a chance to discuss their work with adult experts. The jury interview is a most meaningful situation for the young participants. All the projects selected to the final event also receive a cash award.
Some projects are given the opportunity to represent Finland in the international science competition EUCYS (EU Contest for Young Scientists). More information can be found on their website.
In addition, there may be special awards provided by the organisers or sponsors.
